This Sunday more than 1,000 runners will participate in the Sudbury Rocks races. But only one will be taking part in a full police uniform.

Greater Sudbury Police Const. Michael Rouleau is no stranger to long-distance running. He's completed several ultra-marathons.

But on Sunday, May 26, Rouleau will give himself a new challenge. He'll be running a full marathon wearing his police uniform, boots and about11 kilograms of gear, including his baton, firearm, clips and pepper spray canister.

"I definitely don't take this lightly," he said.

"It does instillsome fear in me, which is part of the reason why I wanted to do it."

Rouleau has receivedspecial permission from the race organizers and police service to run in his uniform.

He says it's something he's always wanted to do, and finally decided to commit to the idea this year.

While he's been training for the race, it's always been in regular running shoes and clothes.

Every year Sudbury Rocks supports a different charity. This year's proceeds will go to the Northern Cancer Foundation.

Rouleau has already raised more than $7,500 for the cause.

"I'm well aware that it's gonna be difficult," he said about his upcoming marathon.

"That's the whole part of it is, you know, my suffering will just pale in comparison to those who are going through cancer and their battles."
