Mississauga man charged in connection with bomb threat at Waterloo Region airport

A 28-year-old Mississauga, Ont., man has been charged in connection with an incident Monday at the Region of Waterloo International Airport, police said.

The airport went into full lockdown for several hours as a result of a bomb threat on a Flair Airlines plane headed from Ontario to Vancouver on Monday afternoon.

"Through investigation, police determined there were no explosives found on the plane," Waterloo Regional Police said in a news release Tuesday.

The man was charged with:

• Uttering threats to cause death and mischief.
• Interfere with operation of property.

The accused is in custody pendinga bail hearing, police said.

Plane evacuated after threat

On Monday, police said a passenger reported to staff that another passenger threatenedhe had a bomb on the plane.

The plane was evacuated and the police explosives disposal unit boarded the aircraft to investigate whether a device was on board.

Operations have since returned to normal, airport general manager Chris Wood wrote in an email to CBC News.

According to the airport's website, all flights that were cancelled on Monday will depart on Tuesday.
